Before using Teflon tape on pipes, wash the threads used to connect the pipes together so that no debris gets in the way. Then, check that you have the correct type of tape, such as yellow for gas pipes and pink for water lines. Next, wrap the tape around the end of the male threads in the direction the threads run, taking care that no tape projects over the edge of the pipe. If this happens, you’ll have to start over.
