If you want to make a spray paint stencil, choose a sturdy material such as cardboard, foam board or clear acetate and outline your design. Using a sharp utility knife, carefully cut away the areas of the design where you want the paint to show through. If you’re using more than one color of spray paint, you’ll need to make a separate stencil for each color. When you’re ready to use the stencil, lay it as flat as possible on your painting surface and tape the corners of the stencil together with masking tape.
