This wikiHow teaches you how to post a link to a YouTube video on your Facebook timeline on both desktop and mobile platforms. Posting a YouTube link will not open the video on Facebook, and there is no way to embed YouTube videos in Facebook posts. If you want a YouTube video to play on Facebook, you’ll need to download the video yourself and then upload it to Facebook as a file.

[Edit]uploading to facebook
- Understand the limitations of this method. In order to post a video to Facebook and have it play on Facebook instead of redirecting to YouTube, you must download the video and upload it to Facebook. It comes with some drawbacks:
- You cannot perform this process on a mobile device (eg, smartphone or tablet).
- YouTube videos will be reduced in quality when uploaded to Facebook.
- Facebook only allows videos up to 1.75 gigabytes and 45 minutes long; Anything bigger/longer than this will not be uploaded.
- Use this method only if you/your organization created the original video and owns the copyright or if you have their permission. Adding video credits by simply adding their name to the Facebook post is unlikely to be good enough.
- Open youtube. Go to https://www.youtube.com/ in your browser. The YouTube home page will open.
- Find a video. Click the search bar at the top of the YouTube page, then type in the name of the video you want to download and tap .
- Select Video. Click on a video’s thumbnail on the results page to open it.
- Copy the address of the video. Click the web address in the text box near the top of your browser’s window to select it, then press (Windows) or (Mac) to copy it.
- Open the Convert2MP3 website. The Convert2MP3 site allows you to convert links such as YouTube links that you’ve copied into MP4 video files that can then be downloaded.
- Paste in the address of your video. Click the text box below the “Insert video link” heading, then press or . You should see a YouTube link appear in the text box.
- Change the file type of the video. Click mp3 Click the box to the right of the text field, then click mp4 in the drop-down menu.
- Pick a quality. Click the “MP4 Quality” drop-down box below the link text field, then click the quality you want to use for the video in the drop-down menu.
- You cannot select a quality that is higher than the maximum video quality, as doing so will result in an error.
- Click. It’s an orange button to the right of the link text field. This will tell Convert2MP3 to start converting your video to a file.
- If you see an error here, choose a different video quality and click Change re.
- Click. Once the video has been successfully converted, this green button will appear below the title of the video. Clicking it will begin downloading the video file to your computer.
- The video may take several minutes to download, so be patient and don’t close your browser.
- open Facebook. Go to https://www.facebook.com/ in your browser. If you’re logged into Facebook, this will open your Facebook News Feed.

- Click. You’ll see this green-and-gray button below the “Make Post” text field near the top of the Facebook page. A File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window will open.
- Select the downloaded video. Find the video you downloaded and click on it to do so.
- If you haven’t changed your browser’s download settings, you’ll find the video in download folder on the left side of the window.
- Click. It’s in the lower-right corner of the window. Doing so will upload the video to your Facebook post.
- Add text to your post. Type whatever text you want to accompany the video in the text field at the top of the post box. This is where you should assign credit (for example, “Video courtesy of [username]”) at the very least.
- Click. It’s a blue button in the lower-right corner of the post window. Doing so uploads the video to Facebook, although you may have to wait several minutes before the video finishes processing.
